Welcome to OpenMechanics!

Here, we hope to develop a community of people from all walks of life in order to produce mechanical designs for the common man (by man I mean person). The wiki is open to any project suggestions, from the long-term project design of a sustainable electric vehicle to smaller, faster projects such as plans for a tube notcher.

If you have no idea what any of this is, not to worry. There will be plenty of information for you to paruse soon, and we hope to show you that there is something for everyone here.

If you're an engineer, whether you're still a student or a seasoned veteran, we'd love to have you join our design team. To dispell any myths, this is not for capital gain of any sort. This is simply meant to be a community of people who get together in their free time to design things that may further the development of our society. If you don't think you have that kind of power, please read this. We'll soon have links to all sorts of goodies, including free, open source engineering software so anyone can contribute (without the high costs of commercial software).

This isn't much yet. Stay tuned - changing the world is just around the corner.

Well, I just joined. My background is that of a software developer with exp in web dev, software dev and microcontroller dev. I'm good with mechanical stuff. I would like to see open source mechanics achieve the same success that open source software has achieved.
